Description of ASTM-D4514 2012

ASTM D4514 - 12

Standard Specification for Friction Tape

Active Standard ASTM D4514 | Developed by Subcommittee: D09.07

Book of Standards Volume: 10.02

ASTM D4514

Abstract

This specification covers friction tapes that are commonly used for protecting, and binding in place, insulation applied to joints of electrical wires and cables, and for other mechanical purposes. The tape shall consist of a woven fabric sheeting impregnated with a frictioning compound (an adhesive insulating compound), cut into rolls of narrow width and wound on a core. Friction tapes shall meet the prescribed requirements such as adhesion, aged adhesion, breaking strength, breakdown voltage, parallelism, and tackiness. The specified dimensional requirements includes nominal width, thickness, and length. The aging and storage requirements as well as the test methods to determine conformance to the prescribed requirements are given.

This abstract is a brief summary of the referenced standard. It is informational only and not an official part of the standard; the full text of the standard itself must be referred to for its use and application. ASTM does not give any warranty express or implied or make any representation that the contents of this abstract are accurate, complete or up to date.
