Description of BS 7121-14:2005 2005This part of BS 7121 gives recommendations for the safe installation and use of pipelayers. subjects covered include selection of pipelayers, planning the lifting operation, thorough examination, operation, as well as safety measures to be taken during the execution of these functions. It also covers the selection and training of personnel involved in the safe installation and use of pipelayers. In addition a uniform method of calculating, and a test method for validating rated lift capacity as presented in commercial literature for pipelayers is included. The rated lift capacity considers hoist mechanism limits, tipping loads and rope factors. This British standard applies to all pipelayers when used in lifting applications as defined in BS EN ISO 6165 and BS 6914-5. This standard, as part of the BS 7121 series, is concerned with the safe use of cranes. This part of the series is related to side boom pipe layers when used in various lifting applications. Covered within the document are ways the rated lift capacity can be: calculated; and validated by testing. Also included in the document are recommendations relating to: Safety; Thorough examinations; Management of lifting operations; Duties/selection of personnel. The standard is aimed primarily at crane users and owners but also contains recommendations for competent persons involved in crane testing.
